The situation

We asked Pete~ ‘What was it that lead you to seek our services? What was your challenge’?

“It was more of an opportunity that drove us to engage with There Be Giants. We’d heard of OKRs and how they were a successful way to shape a growing business. I know Roger on a personal level, and have followed him on LinkedIn. I got in touch because we wanted to get the implementation right from day one. We didn’t want to ‘have a go’ ourselves and find that we had to unpick things and start again. It can be a costly mistake in the early days.”

The solution

We asked Pete~ ‘What work did we do together’?

“We wanted to fully understand our purpose as a business, and from this work on the creation of our key OKRs for the year. Together we structured and planned the OKRs, and setup the software platform to manage them – we’ve opted for KOAN. We’ve come away with the confidence to use and manage them moving forward.”

The impact

We asked Pete~ ‘What outcomes were achieved? What was the impact on growth’?

“We’ve only just finished the implementation and already we’re feeling the benefits. We have the confidence to display and share with our wider team the company’s objectives and bigger goals; asking for their input in a transparent and tangible way.

Something that came out of the sessions was solidifying what our business is about – the ‘vision’ creation. We had our values in place, but we hadn’t cracked the vision. We’d put this on pause, then in came OKRs and a big part of our outcome was nailing our vision and mission statements. A great takeaway for us.

It will be good to get back with TBG to review the impact on growth after our first quarter OKR review”.

In conclusion

We asked Pete~ ‘What would you say to someone like yourself, facing the same challenge you had’?

“We didn’t try to set OKRs ourselves so we can’t advise from the pain-point on this, but I can strongly advise that you don’t go it alone. If you’re serious about implementing OKRs then get an experienced consultant in and get it right from day one.”
